Transformative Pool and Outdoor Living Space in Chesterfield, VA

Overview: This project in Chesterfield began as a straightforward plan to install a pool, but it quickly
evolved into the creation of a stunning outdoor living space that is as much a personal
sanctuary as it is a gathering spot for family and friends. The homeowner, who frequently
travels, wanted a place to come home to that would rejuvenate and relax him—a space where
he could unwind in beauty and comfort. With a desire to incorporate his extensive collection of
statues and keepsakes acquired over years of travel, the goal was to craft a backyard that
would tell his unique story.

From the outset, it was clear that the project needed to go beyond a simple pool installation.
The homeowner envisioned a pool large enough to host family gatherings, a designated area
for a future hot tub, and a thoughtfully designed space where his cherished statues could be
displayed. Our design process embraced these ideas and transformed them into a
comprehensive outdoor living area that seamlessly blends functionality with personal
expression.

The focal point of the patio became a raised garden, designed not only to provide a beautiful
display area for the statues but also to offer space for lush landscaping that enhances the
overall aesthetic of the backyard. At the heart of this garden, we installed a three-bowl tiered
water fountain, adding a soothing element with the gentle sound of running water, further
enhancing the tranquil atmosphere of the space.

To tie the entire outdoor area together, we extended the existing paver patio into a decorative
rock bed that complements the stones used in the garden. This extension also covered an old
patio and an overly extended asphalt section of the driveway, blending the new design with the
existing structures, including a detached four-car garage. We addressed a persistent drainage
issue by installing a paver parking pad that matches the hardscape, ensuring that water runoff
from the driveway doesn’t interfere with the pool deck or the newly transformed space.
