Customer’s Vision and Objective for the Space:
Charlene Dixon, the visionary behind Rail FX Stainless Steel Cable Railing and Black Aluminum Drink Rail, embarked on a remarkable project to redefine and enhance her outdoor space. The client’s primary objective was to create an inviting and functional area for entertaining, overcoming the challenges posed by a hill between the main and guest houses. Despite the non-parallel and non perpendicular orientation of the structures, the client aimed to bridge the gap, both aesthetically and functionally, turning it into a seamless and enjoyable living space.

Design Conception and Project-Specific Considerations:
This project stood out as one of the most unique challenges for our team. The unconventional layout of the houses and the natural slope of the land required meticulous planning. Charlene’s vision extended beyond a mere deck; it aimed to transform the outdoor area into a comfortable haven for socializing. The deck, spanning over 50 feet, ingeniously connects a paver patio to a stunning, elevated platform overlooking the valley. The design incorporated a double picture frame around the perimeter and strategically placed spines, dividing the deck into three distinct sections. Overcoming the challenges of uneven terrain and non-linear structures made the design process both demanding and exhilarating.

Materials Used:
The choice of materials played a crucial role in bringing Charlene’s vision to life. The deck features 5/4″ Brazilian Cumaru Hardwood, known for its durability and distinctive aesthetic. Rail FX Stainless Steel Cable Railing and Black Aluminum Drink Rail add a sleek and modern touch to the structure. To ensure a cohesive look, the pressure-treated framing material beneath the deck was skillfully wrapped with the same Cumaru decking, providing a bold interior-style trim.

Unique Aspects of the Planning and Construction:
One standout feature of this project was the strategic use of Wolf Serenity PVC Decking in Onyx for the drink rail. This not only added a contrastig element to the Cumaru hardwood but also contributed to the deck’s overall visual appeal. The lighting design, featuring In-lite Hyve 22 Recessed Lights and Pro-trade Ledge Lights, further accentuates the deck’s perimeter, creating a warm and inviting ambiance.
